FM-200 vs CO2 Fire Suppression: Which Room?
Clean agent systems protect people and electronics. CO2 is powerful in plant rooms where staff must leave first. The room type decides the gas.
Do not copy another building’s system
A bank data closet and a factory generator room are not the same risk. FM-200 (and similar clean agents) leave no residue on servers. CO2 removes oxygen and is the wrong default for a room people sit in.
VESDA or early smoke detection often sits in front of either system so you get a warning before bottles dump.
What we need on the survey
Room volume, false ceiling, who works there, and where people exit. Then we size cylinders and explain the monthly checks.

Is FM-200 safe for occupied rooms?
It is designed for spaces people may still be in, such as server rooms. We still add alarms and a delay so staff can leave.
When is CO2 the better choice?
Unoccupied plant or generator rooms where a total-flood CO2 system is accepted and staff are trained to stay out during discharge.
